Exercise Better
A qualitative UX project about the mothers I interviewed and their experiences of postpartum exercise.

Overview
Exercise Better is an academic UX project exploring the experiences of the mothers I interviewed about postpartum exercise. The analysis looked for emotional, physical and motivational barriers within this limited material.
My Role
Sole UX Researcher responsible for planning, interviews, analysis, and insight synthesis.
Context
Academic UX project · 2-3 weeks · 2024
Problem Statement
The mothers I interviewed struggled to prioritise exercise because of exhaustion, lack of time and limited support. The fitness apps they had tried focused on training plans rather than motivation, community and emotional needs.
Key Insights
💤 Energy Over Motivation
For the mothers I spoke with, energy and sleep were a bigger barrier than motivation.
👶 Baby-Inclusive Workouts
Short, gentle workouts that could be done with the baby nearby were preferred.
👥 Community Matters
Shared experiences with other mothers came up as a source of motivation.
📱 Apps Feel Isolating
Existing apps were described as isolating and overly performance-focused.

Reflection
This project strengthened my understanding of qualitative UX research and insight synthesis. The conversations suggested that emotional and social needs were relevant areas for further exploration alongside the exercise itself.
